Summary of the first episode of "Hyacinth of Ithaca"
Nineteen years after Odysseus left home, Queen Penelope of Ithaca still delayed the suitors by weaving shrouds and kept waiting. His son Telemachus has grown up and desires to be as brave as his father. A gray sailing ship arrived with the Trojan sailor Ajax. He brought the news that Odysseus was trapped on a desert island by a banshee but still survived, and handed Odysseus a cloth bag embroidered with hyacinths. Penelope strengthens her faith and frightens the suitors. Telemachus also looks forward to his father's return. Ithaca's hope is rekindled by this news.
