This is a fantasy family comedy that combines warmth, suspense and hilarious ideas.
The story begins with Chen Dawei, a third-rate suspense writer, his wife Lin Xiaoyu, a kindergarten teacher, and their five-and-a-half-year-old son Chen Xiaobao, moving into a second-hand house with "extremely mysterious Feng Shui". On the night of check-in, Xiaobao announced that he had made a new friend with "no face, three eyes, and no feet touching the ground." At first, the parents just thought it was a child's fantasy, until the milk in the refrigerator was "stolenly drank", the surveillance camera captured a faceless figure, and the child's accurate description of the "former owner" made them believe that their son really had a "ghost friend."
This "new friend" is not an evil spirit, but a six-year-old boy who died in this house seventeen years ago. It does not claim lives, but only "distributes work" to guide Xiaobao's family to solve the unfulfilled wishes that linger around the house: from the Republic of China bride who has been waiting for her groom for sixty years in the attic, to the crazy painter trapped in his painting in the basement, to the opera singer singing an unfinished aria in the toilet... Each unit story coexists with warmth and horror. In the process of solving the "supernatural incident", the family also gains growth and healing.
However, the ultimate twist in the story is far beyond all imagination. When bizarre roommates such as "quantum engineers", "AI emperors", and "alien spaceships" appeared one after another, pushing the story to a cosmic level of absurdity, the final truth was revealed: all the imaginative "roommates" were "safe identities" created by Xiaobao in order to protect his boundless imagination. The "new friend" is Xiaobao himself. This is the warmest fairy tale that a five-year-old child used his imagination to weave for the whole family.
