In the late Ming Dynasty, a wandering theater troupe named "Fusheng Troupe" struggled to survive in troubled times. The class leader Liu Hanyan leads five apprentices with different personalities, traveling through the war-torn Central Plains, using opera to interpret other people's stories, but in reality they experience their own joys and sorrows. From the last years of Chongzhen to the entry of the Qing army, and then to the early years of Kangxi, this small troupe witnessed the change of dynasties, the devastation of life, and also witnessed the glory and darkness of human nature under extreme circumstances. The story uses a group portrait perspective to show how the six main characters support each other, quarrel, separate, and reunite, and finally find the meaning of their respective lives in the torrent of the times.
