Written by Xue Xuan of Ming Dynasty. Xue Xuan (?—1464), Courtesy name Dewen and nickname Jingxuan, was a native of Hejin, Shanxi. Yongle Jinshi, awarded the title of Censor. During the Tianshun reign, he became the right minister of the Ministry of Rites and a bachelor of the cabinet. He believed in Cheng-Zhu Neo-Confucianism and aimed at cultivating oneself, teaching others and restoring one's nature. This can also be said to be the main purpose of this book.
