Nanjing Jinling Ablaze: My Thirty-Day Countdown!

November 1937. The cannon fire outside Nanjing grows ever closer.

Zhang Ergou carries coffins for a living. He has no special skills, just a lot of brute strength and a knack for finding his way around. More than anything, he wants to save enough money for his little sister to eat her fill.

But then the Japanese come.

The sky falls.

The city is about to be breached.

Refugees surge like a tide, but where can they run?

No one knows that hell for hundreds of thousands is only just beginning.

Ergou looks at his terrified little sister in his arms, then at the desperate villagers behind him. He has no gun, only the carrying pole he uses to haul coffins.

He can’t kill many Japanese soldiers. He can’t save this city.

But he has to survive, and keep his sister alive! Even if he has to crawl like a stray dog, he has to crawl out of this mountain of corpses and sea of blood!

But the road ahead is filled with blood, fire, heart-wrenching cries, and bestial laughter.

This is not a hero’s story. It is the story of an ordinary man struggling to protect the last glimmer of light beside him in a living hell, only to have his hopes crushed again and again beneath the wheels of history.

Thirty days: the final countdown for Jinling. Keep reading, if you can bear the weight of it.
