In 1940, France was plunged into the darkest days of World War II by Germany.
As Paris stood on the brink of falling and the leaders prepared to surrender, a name forgotten by history rang out once more: Charles Bonaparte, a collateral descendant of Napoleon Bonaparte.
From the beaches of Dunkirk to the deserts of North Africa, he led the last French army unwilling to submit, fighting to the death and refusing to retreat. While others chose to flee, he chose to counterattack.
“Report! The French have broken through our lines again!”
“What tactics are they using? Why are their tanks more advanced than ours?”
“The commander’s name is Bonaparte... That Corsican monster. Could he really have returned?”, Excerpt from A German Officer’s Frontline Diary
At Allied conferences, Charles fought for France’s interests. On the front lines, he led his troops to victory after victory. When the Tricolour finally flew above the German Reichstag in Berlin, someone muttered, “This time... we won't end up at Waterloo again, will we?”
Charles gazed at the Tricolour rising slowly and smiled. “This time, I make the rules.”
It's okay, but it doesn't reflect the protagonist's characteristics as a special forces officer very well. Now he looks more like a politician. Most of the writing about non-wartime experiences is omitted, just like reading an outline, and some details during wartime are not in place. It is recommended to add some characters and write a group portrait to add a bit of epic feel. Overall, the flaws do not hide the advantages
I have only read seven chapters so far, but I feel that the reading is very good, but the pace is a bit too fast, and we have already reached the Dunkirk evacuation 🙂. Several advantages: the historical information is basically correct and updated frequently. The emotions are also written in a very sincere way, and it's not like a divine drama. It's written in a very real way, and it's not too ambiguous when it comes to the death of a person. Only in Chapter 6, two named people died (to be honest, I originally thought they would become the protagonist's team). Last but not least, this is the only book I have seen about France that writes about World War II from this aspect. The others all write about Germany, and this is one of the few books I have seen about France [like it]. (I really don't know what a fascist in Germany has to write about [laughs awkwardly]? Although I do admire Mustache because he is very awesome. But I don't like fascist Germany, looking at their Jewish concentration camps and other things, and the French Vichy government. It's like seeing China's puppet Manchurian government, puppet Mongolian government and 731 😠) So I was very moved after reading this book. It felt like I was looking at the Anti-Japanese War from another angle [I almost cried]. "The focus now is to continue the war, Lieutenant Colonel." Charles interrupted him. "Every day of delay, the resistance in France will weaken. If you can't decide, please report to your superiors. My troops are requesting to fight for the counterattack against France. The protagonist is very calm. I took this book from Chapter 7, and he is quite intelligent. In terms of IQ, it is pretty good [laughs]. The only shortcoming: But as other reviews said, there is a little too little description of the war, and more of it is a description of the process. It's not like describing the war from the perspective of a soldier, but like describing the war 🥺 from the perspective of a remote commander. At present, I feel that the protagonist is a bit cold-blooded. When his teammates died, he didn't even pay homage and felt sad. But it is also understandable. After all, the war is tight and the situation is serious, because time grieves for the people who have passed away. As for paying homage to them, there will always be opportunities in the future [to send one's heart]... The key point among the key points: China has not yet appeared. The protagonist seems to have said that he was a special forces soldier in his previous life, but it was not clearly reflected. I don't know how the author wants to write about China 🧐.
The main reason for France's defeat in World War II was the White Feather Movement. No soldiers were willing to fight. After the war, when they came back, their wives, children, and houses belonged to others. The main cause of surrender in World War II.
Basically the writing is okay, it's about where the protagonist will take France in the end, whether to restore the empire or become a republic.
The writing is quite good, except that the pace is too fast. If the protagonist snowballed so quickly, I would have written four to five million words and it would have been finished.
The author writes well, I hope you can stick to it
Sure enough, changing regrets is what men love most
It's very beautifully written. It's a masterpiece of World War II literature. I recommend it.
Well written. After the victory of World War II, it remains to be seen whether the protagonist will restore the empire of his ancestor Napoleon or become Washington.
The war is not good, just like the report, other things are forced
