The protagonist Shen Yanzhi, a top student in the Department of Modern Archeology, accidentally traveled to the first year of Wu Zetian's Dazu while participating in the excavation of a tomb in the Tang Dynasty. The holographic archaeological recorder he carried (with limited power) became the key to deciphering the codes of Tang Dynasty tombs. However, because of his accurate prediction of the Tang Dynasty's funeral system, he was involved in a dispute between royal secrets and tomb-robbers. The story uses "pursuing the truth of time travel" as a hidden thread, connecting the exploration of important tombs of the Tang Dynasty such as the Eighteen Tombs in Guanzhong, the Buddhist Caves of the Western Regions, and the Jiangnan Water Tomb, and finally reveals the secret connection between the royal family of the Tang Dynasty and ancient civilization.
