The day Lin Chen was poisoned to death, Lin Xuanting, the Prince of a Different Surname, was leading three hundred thousand cavalry to crush the northern tribes.

The court officials celebrated and divided up the Lin family’s estate that very night.

Even Lin Chen’s fiancée donned wedding robes for another man.

When Lin Chen opened his eyes again, he took the blank imperial decree bestowed by the late emperor and headed straight into the Golden Throne Hall.

“This official requests that Your Majesty grant me a marriage.”

The court was filled with laughing nobles in red and purple robes. “The Prince of a Different Surname died on the battlefield. Which princess does the heir still hope to marry?”

Lin Chen slowly unfurled the decree. “This official wishes to take the Chief Councillor’s legitimate granddaughter as a secondary wife, the Grand Preceptor’s legitimate daughter as a low-ranking concubine, and the Great General’s legitimate daughter as a servant concubine…”

The emperor sprang to his feet on the throne. “Do you know what you’re saying?”

Lin Chen looked the emperor straight in the eye. “If Your Majesty refuses, you’ll be showing contempt for the late emperor. I’ll take what I want myself!”
