The Proficiency Panel That Grew Up with Me

Ling Kong opened his eyes, and the sound of rain reached him before he was fully awake.

The rainy season in Feiyun County was always like this. The drizzle had been falling for a week without a break. He lay in bed, too lazy to move, gazing at a small damp patch on the ceiling. It looked like a bird with its wings spread. He had noticed it by chance three months ago, not long after moving into this old house, in the spring.

6:21 a.m., nine minutes before his alarm.

Ling Kong didn't hurry out of bed. With a slight movement of his mind, a translucent panel appeared before his eyes.
