After Quitting My Job, I Took a Beauty on a World Tour in My RV

Zhang Mo had spent three years cooped up in an office cubicle. Finally, after yet another late-night overtime shift, he wrote his resignation letter. All he wanted now was to shoulder a backpack and see the mountains, rivers, lakes, and seas he’d read about in textbooks. He never expected that as soon as he set out, he’d be hit with the “Life Restart Travel System.”

The System deposited one million yuan straight into his account and gave him a super-powered new-energy RV. It could plan routes automatically, regulate the temperature intelligently, and even recommend recipes based on local ingredients. From then on, he no longer had to budget for stays in hostels. He could drive his “home on wheels” and watch the sunrise by Erhai Lake in Dali while sipping freshly made sweet tea with rushan cheese; wander Xi’an’s Muslim Quarter late into the night, then warm up with a bowl of yangrou paomo in the RV’s kitchenette; or camp at Mingsha Mountain in Dunhuang, where the System warned him of an approaching sandstorm in advance, while the skylight perfectly framed the whole starry sky.

The trip was meant to be a peaceful solo getaway, but unexpected companions kept appearing: the innkeeper who drew him a hand-drawn map when he got lost in Lijiang Old Town; the Uyghur girl in Kanas, Xinjiang, who challenged him to a cooking contest over pilaf; the independent photographer on Gulangyu Island in Xiamen, who joined him in uncovering the stories behind old villas... They brought their own stories aboard, shared local drinks with Zhang Mo around the RV’s little table, and captured all kinds of scenery by the windows. A spontaneous trip became a moving feast of landscapes, food, and chance encounters.
