Your Highness, I Have Come to Break Off Our Engagement

Lu Zhiwei is wealthy enough to rival a nation. To preserve his family's fortune, her father arranged a marriage between her and the Crown Prince years ago. The Crown Prince died young, and Regent Xie Tingyun took over the reins of power. Hoping to escape the imperial family's grip and focus on business, Lu Zhiwei sent the regent a formal request to end the engagement. Xie Tingyun was already scrambling to fund the Northern Frontier war effort, and his eyes fell on the Lu family's staggering wealth. He not only rejected her request, but also forced the Lu family to shoulder enormous military expenses, claiming that "the future empress must help bear the burden of the state." Lu Zhiwei sneered, "Your Highness, do you know that the cost of maintaining an army could buy me three vassal states?" The two engage in a fierce battle of money and power, and Lu Zhiwei discovers that the urgent need for military funds conceals a shocking plan to overthrow the court.
