Seventeen Years of Holding an Umbrella for You

I had a crush on Jiang Ci for ten years, from the age of twelve to twenty-two. He always said I was only good enough to be his buddy, and that he’d date a pretty upperclassman. Later, he held the campus belle’s hand and announced their engagement. I finally gave up and moved south.

Three years later, he suddenly appeared outside my office, his eyes bloodshot as he grabbed my wrist. “Why did you leave without saying goodbye? Do you know what these past three years have been like for me, ”

He broke off, silenced by the diamond ring on my left ring finger.

I smiled and pulled my hand free. “Let me introduce you. This is my fiancé.”

A teasing voice sounded behind me: “Baby, who’s upsetting my wife?”
