"The Surprise at Two Moments" is a collection of short vernacular novels compiled by Ling Shuchu of the Ming Dynasty. There are 40 short stories in total. Most of them are based on folk stories and social reality. The content covers official corruption, marriage ethics, retribution of good and evil, etc. It uses vivid plots to show the life of the Ming Dynasty and the various aspects of human nature.
