In the strange world called "Logos", everything is defined and constructed by the ancient "original root". Language has the power to directly intervene in reality, and the "Code of Ten Thousand Laws", which records the mysteries of all word roots, is the cornerstone of maintaining the operation of the world. However, a disaster known as the "Great Silence" caused the code to be shattered, the roots of words scattered, twisted or invalid, and the world fell into disordered chaos: mountains floated in the air because of their broken names, rivers reversed due to changes in definitions, and terrifying "silent beasts" breed in the shadow of the law.
The protagonist of the story is Lane, a young man who makes a living by "scavenging" in the ruins. He accidentally awakens a self-aware and weird-tempered broken dictionary called "Kaisel's Encyclopedia". This ancient dictionary, which claims to be from before the code was broken, is the only treasure in existence that can decipher and even weakly invoke the power of the remaining root words.
From then on, Renne and "Kai's Encyclopedia" were forced to go together and embark on an adventure to find other remaining pages of "Code of Ten Thousand Laws". They must travel through an area that is bizarre due to chaotic laws, solve ancient puzzles and ruins built on the power of roots, and at the same time avoid the pursuit of the "Silent Order", an evil organization that attempts to swallow all the power of roots to reshape the world. In this world where one word can set the rules and one word can shake mountains and rivers, Renne needs to learn how to "use words correctly", and every interpretation and use of word roots is not only the key to solving the crisis, but also may lead to deeper disasters...
