On the Road to Escape Famine, I Stockpile Grain with a Trading System

Lin Yao, a highly accomplished student of modern agriculture, accidentally transmigrates to a flood-stricken region along the Yellow River in the third year of the Jiahe era of the Great Jing dynasty. The moment she opens her eyes, she is an orphan on the brink of starvation, struggling to care for her little brother, Xiao Hu. With corpses strewn across the land and refugees fighting over food, she finds herself in dire straits as soon as she arrives in this strange world.

On the brink of death, the “People’s Livelihood Exchange System” binds itself to her: helping disaster victims unlocks supplies for exchange! Clutching her last handful of wild greens, Lin Yao exchanges them for half a bowl of life-saving millet porridge. She saves her brother and begins the fight to survive. She quietly trades herbs for coarse rice and labor for salt, gradually building up resources; when soldiers raid the area, she uses blueprints from the System to set traps and protect the refugees. When she senses the danger of the mass migration, she persuades everyone to leave the group and head for Qingliang Mountain in search of a chance to survive.

At Qingliang Mountain, Lin Yao uses the System’s “resource detection” to find springs and dig up wild potatoes. With “seed exchanges,” she clears land and plants crops. She also establishes a rule of “grain according to labor,” turning the scattered refugees into a community that supports one another. But crises arrive one after another: when locusts threaten, she exchanges for insect-repelling powder to protect the crops; when an epidemic breaks out, she seeks rare medicinal herbs to save the sick; when bandits attack, she forms a guard squad to defend their home.

From an orphan everyone could bully, to the “Eighth-Rank Lady Anhui” who leads a thousand people to build a home, and then to the “Fifth-Rank Lady Shude” who rushes to the border and resolves a drought, Lin Yao uses the System and her wits to carve out a haven amid famine. She makes Qingliang Mountain a refuge for the displaced and uses modern agricultural knowledge to advance the Great Jing dynasty. In the end, she transforms from a refugee into a legendary woman remembered in the annals of history, carrying the hope of “staying alive”
