A Chengdu Gold Digger's Three Marriages

Ye Shengmei: The female lead, 25 years old from the start. A white-collar worker in Chengdu, she is fairly attractive, shrewd, and pragmatic. Driven by family pressures and her own vanity, she gradually becomes a professional gold digger. Torn inside, she both desperately craves material wealth and, on occasion, yearns for genuine affection and a stable life.

Ye Shengmei's parents: They favor sons over daughters and treat their daughter as an ATM for their son.

Younger brother Ye Jiabao: The family's spoiled, troublesome son, constantly causing problems that his sister has to clean up, from finding him a job and helping with his dating life to paying a down payment on a house and compensating for trouble he gets into.

Long Yifei: Her first husband. He is reasonably well-off and owns a home. At first, he is fairly tolerant, but Ye Shengmei's constant demands and comparisons eventually leave him exhausted and cold.

Middle-aged man (second husband): Financially comfortable, but possibly not highly educated. He longs for children and the warmth of family life.

Fifty-year-old man (third husband): He has a steady income but is no longer young. He longs for family life in his later years or needs an heir.

Classmates and close friends: They are the people Ye Shengmei compares herself with, and her source of information about the secrets of success.
