A New Life Beneath the Sun

In four years, he goes from a poor student in a mountain village to a top student in the city, only to discover that he still has nothing. Ye Fan's backpack holds the flatbreads his mother made and the hard-earned money she stitched into his underwear pocket. It also carries all the pride and hopes she has ever had. Amid the city's glitter and coldness, he struggles to survive like a stubborn weed. Just as the storms of reality threaten to tear him out by the roots, a call from far away telling him that his mother is critically ill becomes another turning point in his life. Should he keep losing his way in the city's quagmire, or return to the land that raised him and seek out new possibilities? This is an ode to all ordinary mothers and their hardworking children, a story of love and sacrifice, of falling down and getting back up, and of what it truly means to grow up.
