Transmigrating into Dream of the Red Chamber: I Am Jia Min!

Meng Shu, a university student studying Chinese literature in the 21st century, transmigrates by accident while working on her thesis and becomes Jia Min, the ill-fated mother who dies young in Dream of the Red Chamber.

To come back to life, Fairy Jing Huan offers her a deal: “Turn the tide, and you can return.” Meng Shu rolls up her sleeves. “I can do this!”

She thinks she has the story in hand, and that saving a once-great mansion in decline will be nothing more than high-level corporate management. So when Baoyu eagerly wants to give his Lin-Meimei the nickname “Pinpin,” she lets out a cold laugh and tells him, “Baoyu, are you trying to break my heart?” It puts him in his place and marks the first step in protecting her daughter from being “labeled.”

But when she actually takes charge of the crumbling Jia household, she discovers that every man in the family, from the lecherous Jia She to the useless Jia Zheng, and then Jia Zhen and Jia Lian, who do nothing but live off their elders, is a good-for-nothing. The family coffers are already empty, and not one man is willing to shoulder the burden of the household.

At last, Meng Shu understands: why prop up a mansion on the verge of collapse when she can build something new? She pours all her care and modern wisdom into Daiyu, teaching her to understand the ways of the world and navigate human relationships. With an iron hand, she sets the household in order and negotiates both inside and outside the palace, paving her daughter a path no one ever imagined: to become empress.

When Daiyu finally dons the empress’s crown, Meng Shu’s (Jia Min’s) mission is complete.

She successfully returns to her own world.

And goes right back to the misery of revising her thesis, suffering and loving every minute of it.
