I’m Lin Ji, a college student determined to lie flat. A shady recruiter tricked me into signing a contract to become a “dimension shop manager.” The moment I opened my eyes, zombies were shambling outside the window, and a broken loudspeaker was screaming in my head: “Ding! The slacker Host has been bound! I’m Penny, your System. Get to work, now!”
Me: “...Can I run the shop while lying down?”
Penny: “Stop lying around! This System doesn’t even have time to patch its tires! Get up and make money, or you’ll be electrocuted!”
And so my lazy life in another world began...
I wipe down expired canned food and sell it as a “limited-edition nostalgic treat.” On rainy days, I tell people Penny getting wet is an “automatic car wash service” and charge fifty yuan!
A Ye, on the verge of a breakdown: “The customers say their cars are covered in mud after the wash!”
Me, completely unapologetic: “That’s the retro distressed look. It costs extra!”
My System is Penny, a sharp-tongued car girl who spends all day yelling, “We need upgrades! We need gold plating! You slacker, stop getting in the way of making money!”
My employee is A Ye, a conscientious young man from the apocalypse, who chases me around every day shouting, “Sister Lin! The books don’t add up again!”
I collapse onto the floor. “Penny, let’s close up...”
Penny: “Not a chance! This System hasn’t finished its grand gold-plating plan! Lie down again and I’ll play that off-key song you sing in the shower on repeat!”
A Ye: “A customer wants a refund...”
The two of us, in unison: “Refund? No way! We have the final say!”
