The Path of Blood in the Mystic Ruins is an apocalyptic cultivation novel blending a zombie crisis, Eastern mysticism, and struggles of human nature. Set in a wasteland after a scarlet rainstorm, it follows the protagonist, Lin Mo, and his childhood friends as they return to their mutated village. Trapped amid roaming zombies and the resurgence of evil spirits, they unexpectedly obtain a bronze sword capable of absorbing leyline energy and gradually uncover shocking secrets, including the Beidou Temple's blood sacrifices and the reincarnation of a leyline Host.
Worldbuilding
- Leyline mutations: The revival of spiritual qi causes corpses to mutate, unleashing monsters such as zombies, Yin Corpses, and leyline spiritual roots. The living can gain supernatural powers by consuming "leyline orbs," but risk being consumed by the energy in turn.
- Cultivation system: Traditional Taoist arts combine with mutated energy, giving rise to dark cultivation techniques such as "body possession," "soul-nurturing banners," and the "Heavenly Dipper Yin Corpse Formation." The Beidou Temple's lineage also has a dark tradition of controlling leylines through human sacrifice.
- Factional struggles: National biochemical defense forces, a mysterious black iron research institute, and civilian survivor factions wage bloody battles over leyline springs. In the shadows, a thousand-year conspiracy involving the reincarnation of the first leyline Host and the temple master is also unfolding.
