Shen Yuansheng appears to be a gentle banker in Shanghai. Privately, he is a double agent codenamed "The Ferryman". He went around among senior Japanese and puppet officials every day, hiding top-secret information in bank slips. He thought he was perfectly hidden. Until one day, he came home late at night and opened the study door and found a bullet on his desk.
