Building a Reputation in Republican China

Synopsis:

When Gu Zhangge opened his eyes, he had become a fourteen-year-old raw recruit amid a hail of bullets atop Nanchang’s city walls. His comrades were on the brink of death, and the charge signal sounded shrill and piercing.

At this desperate moment, the “Battlefield Prestige System” suddenly activated. The braver he performed, the higher his prestige and the better his rewards! But the System was stingy and brutally practical: want a first-aid kit? Earn enough prestige first! Want a good rifle? Your prestige rank has to match a squad leader’s position! Want to learn tactical command? Come back when you have enough prestige to become a platoon leader!

To survive, and even more for the admirable comrades at his side, Gu Zhangge threw himself into the fight. He roared from the trenches, rallied the men, and unexpectedly ignited the whole army’s morale. His prestige skyrocketed!

Just as he received his reward, the commander clapped a hand on his shoulder, his gaze sharp as a blade. “You’ve got a way with words, young man… Who taught you?”

Gu Zhangge broke into a cold sweat, thinking his life was about to end prematurely.

Then the commander lowered his voice and said something astonishing: “As it happens, the enemy’s radio station needs someone who can talk people into things. You’re taking the job!”

And so, beyond the smoke-filled battlefield, an invisible war over the airwaves quietly began.

This is an unconventional coming-of-age story about striving for promotion while relentlessly racking up prestige amid the flames of war!

See how the protagonist turns his voice into a weapon and trades prestige for equipment, rising from an unknown soldier on the battlefield to a “Red propagandist” and ace commander whose voice shakes all of China.
