Shen Wen was getting repeatedly mauled by an Odogaron in Monster Hunter: World when the enraged monster on screen leaped in for the kill and tore through reality, dragging him and his computer into another world!
Hell difficulty from the start? The Ferocious Beast Contract System kicks in just in time, binding him to his beginner’s reward: one Odogaron (Variant)! But what’s with the System’s rating? A creature fearsome enough to terrify the local elite beast tamers is only Rank D?
While the otherworldly beast tamers still show off their gentle Feathered Sparrows and sturdy Rockshell Turtles, the monstrous dragon shadow behind Shen Wen lets loose a soul-rending roar. He scratches his head sheepishly. “Well, uh, my beast might be just a little outside the usual style.”
Even crazier, other people get their beasts through inheritance or capture, but Shen Wen’s powerful companions come from... completing missions and getting monster eggs?! [Ding! Drive off the Great Jagras: Mission complete. Reward: one Great Jagras egg!] [Ding! Investigate the Elder Dragon’s tracks: Mission complete. Reward: one Kushala Daora hatchling egg!]
And so Shen Wen sets out on a delightfully absurd (perhaps?) journey, hatching and raising outrageous beasts from Monster Hunter while crushing the other world with his wildly over-the-top style and charging toward the title of “Monster Master”.
