Miao Lang is an ordinary mortal who transmigrates to a mysterious world of cultivation. Dreaming of becoming an immortal cultivator, he endures two years of hardship, only to hit one wall after another on the path to cultivation and even come close to starving to death. With no other choice, he decides to give up. On his way home, a demon beast chases him to a cliff. After jumping, he finds a mysterious box in a cave dwelling. Its spirit takes the form of a game System and tells him that taking on disciples and teaching them the Dao will earn him ten times their cultivation gains in return.
However, Miao Lang's rise draws the wariness of the villainous factions. Three major villains secretly sabotage his efforts to take on disciples and spread rumors that cause the cultivation world to misunderstand and ostracize him. Meanwhile, a dark force threatens the cultivation world: unless Miao Lang can train disciples powerful enough to stand against it within three years, the entire world of cultivation will fall under its dark rule.
With the System's help, Miao Lang works hard to recruit disciples, but his own initially mediocre aptitude makes training them an uphill battle. Along the way, several wavering characters betray him for their own gain, plunging him into a crisis of trust. Even so, with his resilience and wisdom, Miao Lang gradually clears up the misunderstandings and expands his ranks of disciples.
In the final battle against the dark force, Miao Lang and his disciples overcome countless hardships and win. Yet he discovers that those closest to him have betrayed him, leaving the fruits of victory bitter. Still, he remains true to his original purpose and leads the cultivation world toward a new future.
A truly enjoyable novel, my favorite among many novels. I like that this book does not have the pretentious images created by many authors, but only the pure personality charm of the protagonist and the fresh faces of the others; I also particularly like the story in which all the characters conform to the cognition and behavior of the world view, unlike many novels that are entangled in farce constructed by superficial legal principles; and the shaping of the world, the writing of foreshadowing, and what the protagonist sees and hears as a real time traveler, all make me feel that the evaluation score of this book should not be so low.
