The Laid-Back Actress: I’m Slaying the Entertainment Industry

For three years, award-winning actress Jiang Wanxing has had no film offers, and the whole internet mocks her as an “outdated pretty face.”

A remark at a convenience store about being “so broke I have to survive on starch” unexpectedly makes the trending topics.

She stumbles into a livestream and goes viral after appearing bare-faced in a close-up.

She unexpectedly gains a golden finger, and her clear-eyed remarks strike a chord with viewers.

While others sell an image, she embraces doing nothing and becomes a refreshingly clear-headed leading lady.

The whole internet waits for her to lose it, but she shatters the entertainment industry's illusion with her authenticity.

She stages a comeback through the variety show Be Yourself, Sister!, then stars in a biographical film about her own life.

She signs on for no pay, shaves her eyebrows without makeup, and delivers a stunning performance that sweeps three major awards.

During an international remake, she stands up to the director and shatters the prejudice that “Chinese actresses can only play ancient roles.”

She becomes a mentor, takes apart the podium, and teaches ordinary people to act, setting off a storm in the industry.

From being blacklisted to being remembered by an era, she helps every ordinary girl see the light.

Wanxing is never too late. Her legend is an echo of countless ordinary people.
