Liuli Lane: Emerging from the Cocoon and Becoming a Butterfly

In the turbulent early years of the Republic of China (about 1920-1930s), in the deep alleys of an ancient city in the south of the Yangtze River (Gusu City), the Su family ran the century-old colored glaze workshop "Chengxintang". The head of the family, Mrs. Su (Su Qinshi), has been a widow for many years. She maintains the family business with tenacity and wisdom, and raises four daughters with very different personalities: Su Yunyi (the eldest daughter), Yunzhen (the second daughter), Yunxiu (the third daughter), and Yunhui (the youngest daughter). The story revolves around the growth, choices, family affection and love of four sisters amidst the great changes of the times (the New Culture Movement, the rise of national industry, and the shadow of war). It shows a touching chapter of women searching for self-worth and protecting their homeland under the collision of tradition and modernity.
