The Stars of Glass City

Stars In 1960s Hong Kong, neon lights were just coming on, but they could not conceal the deep-rooted ills of the old era. The moment a shooting star streaked across the night sky, a baby began to cry in the mansion of tycoon Zhang Zhongfu. After years of longing for a son, he had finally welcomed an heir, Zhang Jiaming. But this mansion, a gilded cage, was rife with intrigue among his many wives and concubines. His mother, Madam Zhang, spent every day maneuvering through the family's power struggles to secure her position, never offering her son a single tender word. Loneliness became the defining color of Zhang Jiaming's life. Only music could comfort his soul, yet his passion was dismissed as the ridiculous behavior of a rebellious rich kid. After his coming-of-age ceremony, he secretly went abroad to study music, igniting his parents' fury. After breaking with them and moving out of the Zhang mansion, he struggled to make his way through the dazzling, chaotic entertainment world, using music to fight against the shackles of fate. Then he met Wang Hailing, a girl from the slums whose eyes sparkled like stars. She was like a ray of light in his world. She understood his melodies and his loneliness. The two grew from kindred spirits into a married couple, believing they had finally escaped the shadow of his family. Yet his mother never stopped keeping watch, and an unseen hand was manipulating the fate of the Zhang family from the shadows. One person after another met a mysterious death in the Zhang mansion, and the shadow of death spread through the bloodline, drawing Wang Hailing into the vortex as well. It turned out that everything stemmed from a disaster planted by the previous generation. Long-buried grudges were now being settled in the cruelest way. Everyone in the mansion struggled on fate's chessboard as separation and death followed one after another. Those called villains had their own unspoken troubles, while those who seemed good were burdened by shackles they could not escape. When a shooting star streaks across the night sky once more, what price will it take to bring this feud, spanning two generations, to an end?
