Modern-day office worker Zou Yan (played by Wang Yinglu) unexpectedly transmigrates to the cultivation world, where she becomes Liao Tingyan, a disciple of Qinggutian. She is chosen as one of a hundred disciples to serve the Grandmaster, Sima Jiao (played by Chen Feiyu). To the outside world, the Grandmaster is meditating in seclusion at Three Saints Mountain, but in truth, he has been sealed inside the mountain for five hundred years. As a result, he is cold, withdrawn, quick-tempered, and consumed by hatred for Gengchen Immortal Palace, longing for revenge. Liao Tingyan's original body was an assassin sent from the Demon Realm, but Zou Yan has no idea that “she” comes with a hidden backstory. Their first meeting nearly ends with Sima Jiao killing her. Later, Sima Jiao's “Oath of Truth” ability reveals that Liao Tingyan has no desire to kill him and wants nothing from him. Her attitude piques his interest, setting off a love story that spans many lifetimes between a villainous demon lord and a healing, laid-back slacker.
