Alive Until Death

I used to think that people lived for themselves.

I stole my sect’s secret manuals, betrayed the righteous path, and joined the demon cult. I would do anything to become stronger. I spent a thousand years turning myself into an isolated island: unfeeling, desireless, invincible.

Then I met a bunch of idiots.

They were laughably weak, yet dared to draw their swords against a sky full of immortals and demons. They were so poor they could barely scrape by, yet they gave me their last spirit stone to heal my wounds. When they called me their “companion,” there was no calculation in their eyes, only light.

I planned to use them and then walk away.

But the moment they fell, one by one, the hand holding my sword suddenly stopped obeying me.

Looking back on my past, I schemed for a thousand years and never made a losing deal.

But this time, I want to stake my life to give them one more chance to see spring in bloom.

I was clever all my life, and all I wanted was to survive;

Now, willingly facing death, I have finally begun to live.
