The story follows Lin Mo, a top modern-day female special forces soldier who transmigrates to an alternate version of Republican-era China. Her soul inhabits Shen Qingwu, the illegitimate daughter of a wealthy Shanghai family, the Shens. As soon as she arrives, the family is massacred, and she is the sole survivor. Bearing a deep blood feud, Lin Mo draws on modern special-forces combat skills, tactical thinking, and her innate “Battlefield Insight System” golden finger to become a “god of death” feared by Japanese invaders and Chinese collaborators alike, shaking up the espionage war against Japan. She moves among various factions, taking on secret identities such as “aloof student,” “black-market broker,” and “Juntong ace.” While hunting down the real culprit behind the massacre, she uses ruthless methods to kill the invaders. In the end, she grows from a lone wolf bent on revenge into a sharp blade defending her country and people.
