[Reunion after a breakup + misunderstandings and tension + both leads are chaste + simmering attraction + groveling for her forgiveness + careers]
During an operation, Gu Liqian reunites with Xiao Muqin, the man she personally hurt five years ago.
“Fancy seeing you here, Dr. Gu. Do you think saving my life will give you another chance to climb the social ladder?”
Gu Liqian’s expression remains calm. “You give yourself too much credit, Mr. Xiao. Saving lives is my duty.”
Later, he uses his power and old grudges to corner her at every turn, while allowing others to hurt and torment her, until she is left disgraced and ruined!
Heartbroken and disillusioned, Gu Liqian leaves for war-torn Africa.
When the man learns the truth about the past, he follows her there and protects her with his life.
“Gu Liqian, I’ll spend the rest of my life repaying you for what I owe!”
“Please behave yourself, Mr. Xiao. I stopped loving you long ago.”
