At exactly 7:20 this morning, Su Yixia was speeding along on her electric scooter across the huge bridge spanning both banks near her home, wearing the ultimate version of a bleary-eyed, sleep-deprived face. She had spent the whole night having nightmares.
Nothing much, just a black snake as tall as a skyscraper chatting with her all night in the dream. It kept repeating things like, “I’m waiting for you. You have to come find me and save me. It’s your destiny,” and so on.

I’ve seen plenty of people brushing cats’ and dogs’ teeth before…
