The novel revolves around the encounter between Yu Jiaolong, a daughter of a famous family, and Luo Xiaohu, a young horse thief master. Yu Jiaolong is trapped in the shackles of ethics and secretly practices martial arts and longs for freedom; Luo Xiaohu is bound by the tribal mission and has doubts about the status quo. The two met in Xinjiang, from hostility to mutual affection. They have gone through life and death tests such as being attacked by sandstorms, chasing murderers on a moonlit night, and escaping from danger in sand pits, and have joined hands to fight against forces such as Black Wind Village. In the process, Yu Jiaolong breaks away from the shackles of his family, and Luo Xiaohu puts aside his hatred. The two grow up wandering in the rivers and lakes, and finally get rid of their identity labels and find ordinary freedom, which interprets the pursuit of truth, goodness and beauty and the breaking away from the shackles.
