Red Mist: A supernatural phenomenon that occurs periodically. The mist itself is mildly corrosive and hallucinogenic, and prolonged exposure can distort the mind. It is not a natural disaster, but the breathing of the "Cryer", an ancient existence sleeping deep in the city's leyline, when it wakes up.
Weeper: Human beings deeply eroded by the red mist. Their minds are assimilated by the sadness of the "Cryer", they lose their self-awareness, they will shed blood and tears unconsciously, and they are extremely sensitive to sounds. They will madly attack any creature that makes a sound, trying to plunge the world into a dead silence consistent with their hearts. The primary Weeper retains its human form, but as the erosion deepens, more terrifying physical mutations will occur.
The Wailer: The Cthulhu-like being at the heart of the story. It is not a god, but an alien space entity trapped in the earth's dimension. Its essence is endless "sadness" and "loss". Its very existence distorts reality, and the red mist is the manifestation of its power. It has no clear good or evil intentions, and its behavior is just the instinct of existence, but it is devastating to human civilization.
Star Observatory: A secret organization that has existed since ancient times and is composed of families that have been passed down from generation to generation. Their mission is to observe and suppress the activity cycle of the "Cryer". They have knowledge and equipment that exceeds the current level of technology, but are restricted by certain rules or costs and cannot make it available to the public. Their methods are often ruthless and utilitarian, and they believe in the principle of "sacrifice the minority for the survival of the majority."
