A fantasy adventure set in the Republican era, featuring Maoshan Taoist arts. After an accident, modern young man Ye Yifan transmigrates to Qingxi Village in 1934. From the start, he faces a blood-soaked calamity, but is rescued by Daoist Master Xuanqing, an heir to the Maoshan tradition. Ye Yifan then joins the Daoist order as his third disciple.
At Qingyun Temple, Ye Yifan forms a comic trio with his timid but loyal senior apprentice, Zhao Dadan, and his quick-witted, mischievous second senior apprentice, Chen Congming. As they learn Maoshan secret arts such as drawing talismans, exorcising evil spirits, and setting up formations, they join forces with village doctor Su Wanqing, who has both medical skills and basic knowledge of exorcism, to fight the Blood Yin Sect, an evil Daoist organization wreaking havoc in the region. From breaking the Blood Yin Sect's curse magic and stopping it from refining a ghost infant, to battling a thousand-year-old Zombie King and wiping out the remnants of evil Daoist forces, Ye Yifan protects the people of Qingxi Village through crisis after crisis. With his modern way of thinking, the aid of his ancestral magical artifact, the Yin-Yang Pendant, and his steadily improving Daoist arts, he gradually grows into a Maoshan master capable of standing on his own.
