Modern-day overworked office worker Su Yao stays up all night finishing the tragic historical romance novel The Concubine's Daughter Shocks the World. Furious that the author made the beautiful, strong, tragic villain suffer having her eyes gouged out, her fingers severed, and her entire family slaughtered, she curses them out. Then a suddenly short-circuited desk lamp strikes her with lightning. When she opens her eyes, she's become Su Yao, the vicious supporting female character in the book, a legitimate daughter of the Duke of Zhenguo with the same name and face as her own.
