The north wind swept a girl from Jiangnan into Horqin, along with her tragic past.
"My name is Lin Nian'an."
"Children of the grasslands should feel a bond with this land."
"Nian means longing,"
"I'm going to school tomorrow. You'll stay home with Eji."
"An means peace."
"Do you understand, Nomin?"
Nian'an spent eight years embracing Horqin. Baoyin spent eight years embracing Nian'an.
Jinyan never let go of Wuyun's hand. He wanted to take her to a bigger city and show her a bigger world.
Zhaoxia threw herself into Chaolumen's arms. Chaolumen told her, "I want to give you a real home."
Nuorman tipped up Jiang Zhoubo's chin. "Good boy, I like listening to Zhao Lei too."
The long melody of the morin khuur carried far, over the Huolin River, over the Greater Khingan Range, across the vast, boundless Horqin grasslands. Its notes circled again and again, winding through the streets and alleys of Hanshan Banner, connecting everyone to this grassland.
"For years, all I thought about was leaving. Now I want to stay here, forever watching over this great, great Horqin, forever by your side, you who are so good to me."
"Hold on tight and follow me. I'll take you home, to the home that belongs to us."
(The characters' relationships are numerous yet closely intertwined. Any two characters can be connected through the web of relationships.)
