Chen Xuan is a young Taoist priest living quietly among ordinary people. Born with Yin-Yang Eyes, he can now see only the living because of an old injury. To investigate the bizarre “Apartment Soul-Stealing Murders,” he deliberately rents Room 404, a supposedly haunted apartment on the outskirts of town.
As the landlord hands him the key, he gives Chen Xuan a chilling look. “You can’t keep this room under control.”
On his first night there, Chen Xuan discovers something is wrong:
A diary updates itself. Its final page reads, “August 19, 2025. It came tonight.”
A radio that isn’t plugged in switches on by itself. Through the static, someone is saying his name.
A mirror that shows no reflection. The figure inside always moves a split second behind him.
Even stranger, the property manager tells him, “Room 404 was sealed off fifteen years ago. The last tenant’s body… has never been found.”
Then Chen Xuan tears away the wallpaper and finds talismans covering the walls. One of them is unmistakably in his master’s hand, written ten years ago.
“This isn’t a murder house at all… It’s a prison sealed with Taoist magic.”
At last, Chen Xuan understands. He wasn’t here to investigate.
He is the next “tenant” chosen.
