Promised to My Savior’s Child

Does a life debt have to be repaid with a lifetime?

In a frozen cavern in the depths of winter, naval officer Lin Jianguo fell into the water. His comrade Chen Zhiqiang saved him at the cost of his own life, leaving behind a widow and an orphan. To repay the debt, Lin Jianguo made a solemn vow: his newborn daughter, Lin Xiaoya, would marry his benefactor’s son, Chen Dongsheng! Their betrothal as children set the course of their lives.

Chen Dongsheng, a poor boy from the city streets, kept their engagement in his heart from childhood and saw Lin Xiaoya as the light of his life. For seven years, he sent her letters full of heartfelt words, but they disappeared into silence. When she showed up with a boyfriend, he could only tear up their engagement and bury his love. That was, until Lin’s father passed away.

Lin Xiaoya, the general’s daughter, had been bound by the engagement since childhood and longed for freedom. At university, she fell in love with the gentle, talented Ma Wenxuan, only to lose him when his mother fiercely opposed their relationship. To comfort her critically ill father, she pretended to agree to the marriage. Moved by Chen Dongsheng’s love, which he had kept hidden for years, she defied her family and resolutely married him. But the daily grind of married life, her family’s disdain, and the shadow of her ex-boyfriend drove her and her husband further apart.

Living in his mother-in-law’s home, Chen Dongsheng felt like an outsider. His salary was dismissed as too small, and even the housekeeper criticized his cooking. Convinced that her old feelings for her ex had rekindled, he lost control and grabbed her by the throat, demanding answers. When she lost her job and fell on hard times, he was caught in bed with “his rival in love,” Ding Xiaoman, while helping her. After a slap, he was kicked out with nothing! In the pouring rain, he knelt and begged his in-laws to let him stay, all so he could be there to protect Lin Xiaoya at her most difficult time.

When she put aside her pride and asked to make up, he asked for a divorce because Ding Xiaoman was critically ill. Lin Xiaoya lay on the operating table to donate a kidney to her “rival in love”! After being tested by life and death and the weight of their debt, the two embraced through their tears. He spent half his life keeping his vow; she repaid what she owed with one of her kidneys. Can this childhood betrothal, born of a debt of gratitude, ultimately redeem them and blossom into true love?
