Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms: Dream of Claiming the Realm is a historical fantasy epic set from the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period through the early Northern Song. Blending real historical events with fictional elements, it tells a sweeping story of ley lines, celestial omens, and the human heart.
The protagonist, Li Chonghui, is a scholar from Youzhou. After accidentally discovering fragments of a jade flute imbued with mysterious power, he is swept into a crisis over the mineral veins that could determine the fate of the realm. Together with the Khitan leader Yelü Zhao, he proposes the “Three Keys Theory” in an effort to prevent the ley lines from collapsing and civilization from falling. Meanwhile, historical figures such as Later Zhou Emperor Shizong Chai Rong, Song Taizu Zhao Kuangyin, and the strategist Zhao Pu take the stage, each forced to choose between power, ideals, and disaster.
With “benevolence” and “inheritance” at its heart, the story spans war, coups, technology, and faith, depicting a grand panorama of a world in turmoil. Ultimately, it asks a profound question: should knowledge be controlled, or scattered among the people like sparks?
