Lin Xi's life is like one long rainstorm. Mud and hardship keep dragging her into the abyss when she least expects it. Then Yu Xi appears, becoming the only light in her life.
Yu Xi is her second personality: calm and decisive, always able to split the waves and drag Lin Xi back to shore when life pushes her under. When malice closes in around her, Yu Xi raises a wall of thorns in her defense. When she teeters on the edge of despair, Yu Xi clasps her hand and says, "Don't be afraid." They share one body and bear each other's wounds, making it through countless sleepless nights together: warming each other on deserted streets, silently protecting one another amid noisy crowds, and standing back to back against the storms in the whirlpool of fate.
Lin Xi gradually comes to depend on their symbiosis, even beginning to crave the tenderness Yu Xi occasionally shows. But she never imagines that this salvation will come at a price. When the deadliest crisis arrives, Yu Xi chooses to protect her by vanishing completely into the gaps in her consciousness, as though she had never existed.
"Stay alive, and live for both of us." Those are the last words Yu Xi leaves her.
In the years that follow, Lin Xi learns to hold her own umbrella and finally grows into someone who can protect herself.
