Ashes of Shadow, the sequel to The Echo Chamber, takes the story from a sealed room to the even more sinister Stillheart Sanatorium.
Shen Yu and Zhao Ye risk infiltrating the seemingly tranquil sanatorium to uncover the mastermind behind the Echo Chamber, only to find that its connection to the chamber is far deeper than they imagined. Mysterious spaces resembling the chamber appear in expansion blueprints from 1997. Su Ran, a psychiatrist who suddenly “resigned” ten years ago, is closely connected to the bizarre disappearance of three employees that same year. And a “one-eyed” brooch found by the reservoir confirms that the mysterious mastermind with a scar across his brow has had his sights set on them for a long time.
As the investigation deepens, Shen Yu gradually realizes that her past is secretly tied to the sanatorium, while astonishing cracks emerge in Zhao Ye's family history as clues come to light. Su Ran's sudden appearance brings both crucial information and deadly traps, shrouding an already complicated situation in even greater mystery. When the iron door to the sanatorium's basement slowly swings open, the undiscovered truth behind the chamber, the mastermind's true purpose, and the ultimate fates of everyone involved will all find a more earth-shattering answer amid the ashes of shadow.
