Slay the Gods: The Cocky Night Watchman Who Says One Thing and Means Another

Within the lands of Daxia, gods may not tread; the foxfire of Qingqiu shines alone upon Qingzhu. A love story of god-slaying between a cold-faced nine-tailed fox immortal and a dangerously intense, cocky squad member. (Content warning: This is a Shen Qingzhu pairing fanfic. The protagonist, who is the receiver, can disguise himself as a woman. The original plot is changed slightly, with added past-life details and some out-of-character elements. It also depicts ancient Night Watchers.) As the last surviving heir of the Qingqiu Fox Clan, Mu Chenyao carries in his body a soul-fire capable of burning foreign gods to ash, along with the curse of the night his clan was wiped out. Three thousand years later, the Night Watchers awaken him from a bronze coffin. His mission is to keep watch over a dangerous being: Lin Qiye, the youth raising gods inside a psychiatric hospital. “The dark mist in your eyes is exactly like the foreign god that corrupted the Thunder Department all those years ago.” Mu Chenyao’s golden eyes reflected the six-winged phantom behind the youth, while his standard-issue blade was pressed against his waist by Shen Qingzhu, Night Watcher No. 006. “Instructor,” Shen Qingzhu said, his lips curling into a bloodstained smile. “You’ve been staring at someone else for quite a while, haven’t you?” Mu Chenyao (Mu Shangyu) has three secrets: 1. He is a survivor of the ancient Qingqiu Fox Clan. 2. Sealed inside him is the mark of a foreign god capable of burning gods to ash. 3. He has fallen for the Night Watcher who keeps trying to defy him. Shen Qingzhu also has three secrets: 1. His blade is made to slay gods, but it can’t sever his feelings for Mu Chenyao. 2. He recognized long ago that this “instructor” is the nine-tailed fox who saved him in Nanjing. 3. He deliberately loses every sparring match just so he can watch the instructor correct the way he holds his blade. “Look at me like that again,” Mu Chenyao said as foxfire coiled around Shen Qingzhu’s blade, “and I’ll burn you.” Shen Qingzhu: “I’d love that.”
