They first met on a snowy night, brought together by Annotations on the Dunhuang Manuscripts. Their shared love of Dunhuang art rekindled their connection when they met again at the Mogao Caves, and their feelings slowly deepened. Shen Zhiheng gave Lin Weiyan a crescent-moon jade pendant engraved with the character "Yan," promising to come find her once he had settled his affairs. But a carefully plotted conspiracy shattered their promise. Lin Weiyan received intimate photos of Shen Zhiheng with an unfamiliar woman, along with a loan agreement. She mistakenly believed he had approached her to use her father's influence to cover the art museum's debts. Meanwhile, Shen Zhiheng was trapped in a desperate situation after his uncle set him up, leaving him unable to explain.
For five years, they had no contact. Lin Weiyan became a cultural relic restorer, while Shen Zhiheng silently endured everything. Only when Lin Weiyan sorted through her father's belongings did she discover the flaws in the anonymous emails and the letters Shen Zhiheng had sent years ago, and learn the truth. She rushed to Dunhuang, only to find out that Shen Zhiheng had died of stomach cancer. He had left behind another jade pendant, which fit together with hers and bore the characters "Zhiyan," as well as the words "Waiting for you," hidden in the flowing sash of a flying apsara in a Mogao Cave mural.
In the end, their love was shattered by time and misunderstanding, leaving only eternal longing and irreparable regret. Like a broken piece of jade, it bears the marks of what once was, yet can never be made whole again.
