Dedicated to the 18 million sent-down youth.
In 1968, the protagonists, Zhao Ming and Qian Bai, answered the great call to “send educated youth to the countryside.” After graduating from middle school, they went to the rural areas to join the production teams. Amid grueling labor, Zhao Ming fell in love with Sun Hua, and Qian Bai with Li Duo. Both couples married and had children.
When the national college entrance examination was reinstated in 1977, Zhao Ming earned outstanding results and was admitted to a key university, while Qian Bai returned to the city to work in a factory.
However, Zhao Ming abandoned his wife and child to pursue a career in politics, whereas Qian Bai brought his wife and daughter to live with him in the city.
