Taste of Bitter Orange

Lu Yanye is known everywhere as a wild, irreverent guy, and as a prodigy destined for greatness. To people who don’t know him, he’s rich, handsome, and bad-tempered. People who do know him feel exactly the same way.

Jiang Ruochu is his complete opposite. She’s quiet, reserved, and good-natured. Everyone thinks Lu Yanye could never be the kind of person she likes, but to everyone’s surprise, she keeps quietly working to get closer to him.

When Jiang Ruochu finally says aloud all the things she has silently confessed to him countless times, she feels the distance between them all over again. It turns out someone like Lu Yanye, who is always surrounded by admirers, doesn’t even need to reject someone in person.

Jiang Ruochu accepts reality and recognizes the gap between herself and Lu Yanye. So when they meet again, all she wants is to be a stranger to him. But things always go the opposite way, and she’s shocked to discover that even being strangers with Lu Yanye is difficult.

After Jiang Ruochu turns him down again and again, Lu Yanye asks why. She says, “My mom won’t let me hang out with you.”

Later, everyone laughs at Lu Yanye for rejecting her confession back then, only to end up being ignored by her now. He pays no attention to their teasing and says he wants to taste the pure yet bittersweet flavor of love too.

Later still, their breakup ends in a humiliating mess, and Jiang Ruochu decides to cut ties with Lu Yanye for good.

Lu Yanye discovers that no matter what he does, he can’t get so much as a glance from Jiang Ruochu anymore.
