A fictional setting with light suspense: childhood friends team up to solve cases, bickering now and then and doing their best to stay alive.
(Opening a mystery box)
Jiu Fangxiao: A civilian coroner with expert skills and a knack for dealing with corpses, but utterly clueless when it comes to socializing with the living. He gives off a faint aura of death wherever he goes.
Zuo Xu: A newly appointed judicial commissioner, sunny and cheerful, with zero case-solving experience and abilities that remain to be seen, but plenty of confidence and enthusiasm. Unfortunately, he hits a brick wall with his very first case: the death is bizarre, and the coroner assigned to it has walked off the job.
After thirteen years apart, childhood friends reunite at a murder scene.
A strange murder case leads to a series of killings supposedly solved more than a decade ago. The killer takes inspiration from the “Avici Hell,” and their methods are both brutal and steeped in ritual.
One is as steady as an old dog; the other is as restless as a muntjac. This pair of hapless partners trade barbs as they painstakingly piece together the clues.
Jiu Fangxiao: “If we keep investigating this case, we might have to order our own coffins first.”
Zuo Xu: “Then why not get a double? It'll save money!”
When a reliable coroner teams up with an unconventional judicial commissioner, case-solving depends on skill, but survival depends on superstition...
