Beneath Changbai Mountain lies a bronze gate hiding the "Ultimate." The Zhang family has guarded it for generations, bearing a curse in the process. Li Nian joins a tomb-raiding crew to save his mother, but runs into deadly mechanisms in an underground palace beneath Changbai Mountain. Zhang Qiling appears to rescue him and reveals that opening the bronze gate requires Zhang family blood. The group uncovers the truth behind the murals, and Li Nian's fingerprint somehow activates the mechanisms. But then members of the Qi family ambush and kidnap him.
While captive, Li Nian learns by chance that his biological father is the Qi clan leader. He also awakens a bronze compass that reveals the massacre that wiped out the Zhang family. Later, he is injected with a secret Zhang family medicine and awakens the ability to travel back in time. This lets him witness events of the past, giving him a unique advantage in his search for the truth. Compared with others, he can obtain more crucial information and find a way to survive in the face of danger.
From then on, Li Nian and Zhang Qiling face conflicts among the nine great clans and perilous ancient tombs together. In the end, they will uncover the ultimate truth behind the bronze gate and break the Zhang family curse.
