The Melancholy Creation Chronicle of Kirishima Aoi

“I’m dead.”

When he opened his eyes, Tongyuan Lian discovered that he was still alive, sitting on the train that should have carried him to the end of his life. But the other passengers had vanished as if erased by a rubber. This was only the beginning of a series of bizarre events. He soon learned a truth that overturned everything he knew: Maisaka City, where he lived, and indeed the entire world, were an unconscious “miniature garden” created by his shy, timid, utterly unremarkable desk mate, Kirishima Aoi.

Kirishima is the god of this world, yet she knows nothing of her own power. Her emotions become gigantic, raging fire beings in the “incinerator,” while Ryojin Yuujin, the celebrated classmate who calls himself an “Awakened,” takes the form of a knight to clean them up. Even more strangely, Lian is the only one who can see the “Buddha light” of color that reflects Kirishima’s emotions, and for some inexplicable reason, she has “chosen” him. When Kirishima nervously asks if she can come over to his house on the weekend to watch the movie Crying Angel, Lian realizes he has already been swept into the vortex.

The homeroom teacher, Tokiji Ren, who calls himself a savior, warns him that Kirishima is a disaster capable of destroying the world and that he must make her “happy” to save everything. Robot Hikari Senna, a self-proclaimed observation terminal from the “main world,” hints that Lian is a crucial catalyst. Meanwhile, the Awakened organization represented by Ryojin Yuujin regards Kirishima as a god they must protect. Each faction has its own motives, and all of them push Lian toward Kirishima.

Behind an ordinary visit to a classmate’s home lies a crisis threatening the miniature world’s existence. Why did the shy girl-god choose him in particular? Does her melancholy truly point, as people suspect, toward an abyss of despair?
