She dismisses her grandmother’s honeyed words with disdain, never suspecting that she would somehow gain a stepmother. Su Qingqing married into the family the year after Lin Daiyu’s mother died. Because of Lin Daiyu’s aloof nature in her previous life, she had little to do with her stepmother. Before long, Jia Daishan brought her into the Jia household, and the events that followed unfolded. In this life, growing closer to her stepmother, Lin Daiyu discovers that Madam Su is nothing like the awful woman described by the maids and servants. Gradually, Madam Su helps her overcome her awkward nature, and, through her matchmaking, Lin Daiyu happens to meet the Great General Prince. The two later marry happily.
